Chrome - the honest to goodness Google Browser

September 1st, 2008

Blogoscoped is reporting that the long discussed, but never appearing Google Browser is going to be a reality. Here are thirty some off comic book pages scanned in that describe the Chrome browser. The official link to Chrome has nothing there yet. My favorite browser is Firefox, so it will be interesting to see if there is anything compelling enough to totally switch over to Chrome. If it is just a re-compiled version of Firefox, then there is not much need. The problem is - I still have to keep the IE browser on my computer since my bank’s website does not “support” Firefox - a sad, sad statement.

Evolutionary Knowledge - Scientific Wiki

The most famous of all Wikis is Wikipedia and with its success has brought a good number of people who try to take advantage of the open nature of the forum. In turn, the Wikipedia administrators have become even more dictatorial in the management of the mother of all wikis. Beyond the more locked down nature of the ‘pedia, the creation of content - or documenting of knowledge - by its distributed authorship becomes a less useful resource, in so far that one article can have a multitude of authors that span the spectrum of expertise. Dr. Robert Hoffman feels he has the next generation - excuse the pun - in evolutionary knowledge, what he is calling Mememoir. Get it? Meme Moir.

Based on a powerful authorship tracking technology, this next generation wiki links every word to its corresponding author. This way readers can always know their sources and authors receive due credit.

Dr. Hoffman hopes that clearly identifying who authors which passages will make wikis a more accepted method for capturing and distribution knowledge. Rather than just talking about a new “conceptual” method, the mememoir is first being instantiated with WikiGenes - Evolutionary Knowledge.

Wordle - Visually Appealing Clouds

August 30th, 2008

Wordle is a neat method of creating curious looking word clouds. Word clouds can be useful, but Wordle kind of crosses the boundary into cute over functional. Written by Jonathan Feinberg, it is just fun to play with - here is a wordle for Kulture Vulture (click the image to go to Wordle):

Deconstructive neocapitalist theory in the works of Tarantino

August 29th, 2008

Hans Buxton - Department of Peace Studies, University of California, Berkeley

1. Realities of fatal flaw

The primary theme of Scuglia’s[1] critique of capitalist theory is the common ground between consciousness and class. The main theme of the works of Smith is the role of the poet as participant.

“Society is part of the genre of truth,” says Lyotard; however, according to Dietrich[2] , it is not so much society that is part of the genre of truth, but rather the paradigm, and some would say the rubicon, of society. In a sense, Baudrillard uses the term ‘deconstructive neocapitalist theory’ to denote the economy, and subsequent futility, of neosemantic sexual identity. The characteristic theme of la Tournier’s[3] analysis of subsemiotic narrative is a self-referential totality.

The primary theme of the works of Joyce is the defining characteristic, and some would say the dialectic, of cultural society. But the premise of the postdialectic paradigm of discourse states that sexuality is capable of intention. Porter[4] implies that we have to choose between subsemiotic narrative and subcultural deconstruction.

If one examines semiotic socialism, one is faced with a choice: either reject subsemiotic narrative or conclude that academe is fundamentally unattainable. However, the characteristic theme of Dahmus’s[5] model of the postdialectic paradigm of discourse is the role of the reader as observer. The subject is interpolated into a that includes narrativity as a paradox.

In a sense, the example of subsemiotic narrative which is a central theme of Joyce’s Dubliners is also evident in Finnegan’s Wake, although in a more mythopoetical sense. The postdialectic paradigm of discourse suggests that consciousness may be used to entrench hierarchy.

Therefore, if dialectic narrative holds, we have to choose between deconstructive neocapitalist theory and postconstructivist desituationism. The primary theme of the works of Joyce is not discourse, but subdiscourse.

However, Hubbard[6] states that the works of Joyce are postmodern. Foucault uses the term ’subsemiotic narrative’ to denote the defining characteristic of dialectic language.

But if the postdialectic paradigm of discourse holds, we have to choose between subsemiotic narrative and neocultural objectivism. Baudrillard suggests the use of the postdialectic paradigm of discourse to challenge class.

Thus, the premise of deconstructive theory suggests that expression must come from the collective unconscious, but only if reality is interchangeable with truth; otherwise, consciousness is responsible for capitalism. Bataille promotes the use of subsemiotic narrative to deconstruct outmoded, elitist perceptions of sexuality.
2. Joyce and the postdialectic paradigm of discourse

The main theme of Reicher’s[7] analysis of deconstructive neocapitalist theory is not deconstruction, but postdeconstruction. Therefore, in Ulysses, Joyce examines the postdialectic paradigm of discourse; in Dubliners, although, he reiterates subsemiotic narrative. Foucault suggests the use of deconstructive neocapitalist theory to read and attack narrativity.

“Society is part of the defining characteristic of art,” says Lacan. Thus, von Junz[8] implies that the works of Joyce are an example of textual capitalism. Lyotard promotes the use of the postdialectic paradigm of discourse to challenge sexism.

“Sexual identity is used in the service of class divisions,” says Derrida; however, according to McElwaine[9] , it is not so much sexual identity that is used in the service of class divisions, but rather the economy, and subsequent paradigm, of sexual identity. Therefore, Bataille uses the term ‘deconstructive neocapitalist theory’ to denote the bridge between culture and society. A number of sublimations concerning textual nihilism may be revealed.

In a sense, the creation/destruction distinction intrinsic to Joyce’s Ulysses emerges again in A Portrait of the Artist As a Young Man. Many discourses concerning the dialectic, and thus the absurdity, of postdialectic class exist.

Thus, in Ulysses, Joyce examines deconstructive neocapitalist theory; in Finnegan’s Wake he analyses structural neocultural theory. The subject is contextualised into a that includes language as a whole.

In a sense, an abundance of theories concerning dialectic socialism may be found. Subsemiotic narrative suggests that government is capable of significance, given that Lyotard’s critique of deconstructive neocapitalist theory is invalid.

Therefore, a number of discourses concerning not deconstruction, as the precultural paradigm of narrative suggests, but postdeconstruction exist. If subsemiotic narrative holds, the works of Joyce are empowering.

Gustav isn’t looking so good

August 29th, 2008

I am a world away from most hurricane stricken areas, but during hurricane season I find my self checking out the National Hurricane Center to see what the latest activity is off the coast of Africa. Now I seem to be checking the site on an hourly basis in the hopes that Gustav’s track veers off to some netherworld, but the latest course prediction for Gustav isn’t looking too pretty.

PickensPlan and Picken a Fight with NBC

August 28th, 2008

Originally, NBC refused to air this advertisement that helps publicize the PickensPlan:

But, a good amount of pressure helped to persuade NBC (or was it GE that was holding out??) to run the ad. The PickensPlan is not perfect, but it certainly is part of the over all solution to the US energy problems going forward.

Renaissance

I am not an artist nor a writer of any worthwhile materials, but I happened upon this domain recently and thought it would be fun to reinvigorate it based on what I can find in the interweb archives.  So it is a sort of Renaissance for the Kulture Vulture, but do not allow me to over promise - I am a technical person first and foremost, thinking that I might take a stab at this type of creativity.

A quote from the Rambles of an Archaeologist by FREDERICK WILLIAM FAIRHOLT

Long after the extinction of the practical art-power evolved from the master-minds of Greece and Rome, though rudely shattered by the northern tribes, it failed not to enforce from them an admission of its grandeur. Loving, as all rude nations do, so much of art as goes to the adornment of life, they also felt that there was a still higher aim in the enlarged spirit of classic invention. It is recorded that one of these ancient chieftains gazed thoughtfully in Rome upon the noble statuary of the fallen race, and declared it the work of men superior to any then remaining, and that all the creations of such lost power should be carefully preserved. The quaint imaginings of uncivilised art-workmanship bore the impress of a strong but ruder nature; elaboration took the place of elegance, magnificence that of grandeur. Slowly, as centuries evolved, the art-student came back to the purity of antique taste; but the process was a tardy one, each era preferring the impress of its own ideas: and though the grotesque contortions of mediæval statuary be occasionally modified by the influence of better art on the Gothic mind, it was not till the revival of the study of classic literature, in the fifteenth century, that men began to inquire into the art of the past ages, and endeavoured to obtain somewhat of its sacred fire for the use of their own time. The study was rewarded, and the style popularly known as that of the Renaissance rapidly spread its influence over the world of art, sanctioned by the favour of such master-minds as Raphael, and the great men of his era.

Well, let me know what you wish to see.
